My Little Princess

By giant30

It was the beginning of the weekend, my favorite time of the week. I decided to start my Saturday off by going for a walk to a nearby park. On my way, I passed the pet store that was near my home, I normally don't go in, but decided to anyway.

I entered the store and greeted the owner, whom I actually knew.

"Good morning Steve." said Mr. O'Connor, the owner of the store.

"Mornin'." I replied.

I continued my walk through the store, and was looking at the birds, when I heard a rattling coming from one of the cages.

"Feisty bird." I thought to myself.

When I looked down at where the rattling was coming from, I couldn't believe what I saw. There inside the cage, was a very tiny woman. She was no bigger than an inch tall, and was wearing a flowing white dress that came down to her knees.

I bent down to get a better look at her, she came to the front of the cage, as if pleading to me to take her away from the store. I picked up the cage and took it to the front of the store.

"I'd like to buy this." I told Mr. O'Connor.

Mr. O'Connor looked at the cage, "You can't have that, she's not for sale." he told me.

"She shouldn't even BE for sale! she's a human being!" I snapped back, "How would you like it if I put you in a cage and tried to sell you?!"

Mr. O'Connor backed off, but replied, "You still can't take her."

"Too bad." I replied, "She's going home with me." I looked to Mr. O'Connor in disappointment, "I never thought you could be so cruel, I'm ashamed to even know you."

I left the store, carrying the cage that contained the tiny woman, being very careful not to shake her around too much as I walked. When I got home, I took the cage into the kitchen, placing it gently on the kitchen table.

I looked down at the tiny woman, who again came to the front of the cage, she looked up at me again, as if once again pleading with me for something. I finally figured out what she wanted, and opened the cage door.

In literally no time, she climbed out of the cage. I carefully closed the door, then watched as she ran up to my hand and clinged to one of my fingers. I softly hushed her, letting her know that everything was going to be alright.

"What is your name?" I whispered softly.

The tiny woman looked up to me, "Kaylia." she squeaked.

I smiled at her softly, "That's a lovely name."

Her little cheeks turned a bashful red as I complimented her, it was clear that she felt safe with me, I was going to make sure that she continued to feel that way. In no way, shape, or form would I allow anyone to harm this beautiful little woman.

I decided to test her bravery by offering her a hand in the palm up position. Just like I had hoped, she climbed right in, seeming to waste no time in doing so. I brought her up to eye level so I could get a better glimpse of her.

What a sight she was, long flowing brown hair, and the most beautiful little eyes I had ever seen. She looked up at me, giving me a little smile that would melt anyone's heart. I couldn't help but become attached to her.

My eyes momentarily turned from her, to that horrible cage she had been in, I decided it was time to get rid of it. I placed Kaylia on the table, then picked up the cage and carried it outside.

"I'll be right back." I told her, Kaylia nodded and I took the cage outside, putting it in the dumpster.

When I came back inside, Kaylia was waiting for me on the kitchen table, having not moved an inch from where I placed her. I bent down to her again and smiled at her.

"I'll take very good care of you." I whispered.

I decided to try to find a better place for her to stay, because I didn't want her to get hurt. My only problem was, I didn't have anywhere for her to live in my house. I had to think of something, because her safety was number one on my list of important things for her.

Later that same day, I went to the toy store to buy a doll house, figuring it would be big enough to house Kaylia. I brought it home, assembled it quickly and showed it to her. Kaylia went inside, then came out onto the dollhouse's balcony and looked up to me, a smile on her face.

I gazed back down to her, returning the smile, then I decided to find out more about her.

"How did you end up in that pet store?" I asked her.

Kaylia's face saddened, "The owner cornered me as I was out for my morning walk, he trapped me inside the cage, telling me he was going to sell me for a large amount of money."

My heart sank as Kaylia explained what happened, "Well, he can't hurt you anymore, I won't let him."

"What if he comes back?" Kaylia asked.

"If he does, he'll regret it, he had no right mistreating you like that." I replied.

Kaylia looked up to me, "He refused to feed me when he would feed the animals in the store, until you came, I thought I was there to die."

"So he had no intention of taking care of you?" I asked.

"No." Kaylia replied, "His intentions were pure evil."

I felt horrible for Kaylia, my anger toward Mr. O'Connor only grew, but I couldn't let her see it, she had been through enough, and I didn't want her to have to live through it again. I stroked her hair with a fingertip and whispered to her.

"Don't worry Kaylia, I'll make all the wrongs you've experienced right again."

I decided to go back to the pet store to confront Mr. O'Connor, but left Kaylia at the house so she wouldn't see the confrontation. I marched right down there to give Mr. O'Connor a piece of my mind.

"May I help you?" Mr. O'Connor asked.

"Cut the crap!" I yelled, "Kaylia told me what you tried to do to her, I can't believe you, you were going to let her die, all for the sake of a lousy dollar!"

Mr. O'Connor's eyes lit up, reflecting evil, "She was my little gold mine, I could have made a fortune selling her!"

"Made a fortune selling her?! I can't believe I'm hearing this! What has happened to you Mr. O'Connor?!" I yelled.

Mr. O'Connor looked to me, "If you bring her back to me, I'll let you in on half the profits."

"No!" I yelled, "I will not let you hurt her, she's staying with me!"

"Then I'll just have to come down there and get her myself." Mr. O'Connor replied.

I grabbed Mr. O'Connor's shirt collar, "If you even think of hurting Kaylia, I'll make you regret it!"

Mr. O'Connor just looked at me, it was clear what he had in mind, but I wasn't going to let him get his hands on Kaylia, she was with me now, happier than she'd ever been. I went home, knowing that I had to be on high alert now, I had to make sure no one could get in to take Kaylia away from me.

I rushed home to make sure Kaylia was OK, thankfully finding her on the dollhouse balcony waiting for me, I looked down to her.

"You look worried." Kaylia squeaked

"Mr. O'Connor is hunting for you, he has bad intentions for you, you need to help me keep you hidden." I told Kaylia.

Kaylia looked up at me worriedly, "Please don't let him take me!" she pleaded, "I want to stay here with you!"

I hushed her softly, "I won't let him take you, he'll have to get by me if taking you is what's on his agenda."

Just then, I heard banging on the door, it sounded like someone was trying to break in. I sent Kaylia inside her dollhouse, carefully hiding it in my room under the bed, then I went back out into the kitchen.

"Who's there?" I shouted.

"I've come for the tiny woman." a voice answered.

"She isn't here." I replied, "I don't have her."

The door suddenly flew open, it was Mr. O'Connor.

"You lie!" Mr. O'Connor shouted, "Where is the tiny woman?"

"I'll never tell you." I snapped, "You don't want to take care of her, you only want her for your own evil intentions!"

Mr. O'Connor's eyes showed no mercy or compassion, "She needs to come with me." his voice very cold in his statement.

Mr. O'Connor tried to pass me, but in one quick motion, I tackled him to the floor, "I told you you're not taking her!"

I clenched my fist and pulled back, ready to unload a punch at a moment's notice, I looked at Mr. O'Connor's face, which still showed no sympathy for what he was doing, he was dead set on capturing Kaylia, but I would do everything I could to prevent it, or die trying.

"It would be unwise of you to assault me." Mr. O'Connor said in a cold voice.

"Leave here and I won't." I replied, "You're not taking Kaylia, and that's final."

"I'm not leaving until she is mine!" Mr. O'Connor snapped.

"Fine, I'll make sure you leave." I replied.

I dug out my cell phone and called the cops, who came and hauled Mr. O'Connor away. Once the cops were gone, I went back to my bedroom and carefully pulled the dollhouse out from under my bed.

Kaylia came back out onto the balcony, she was safe. We exchanged smiles, then she motioned for me to offer her a hand, which I gladly obliged. Kaylia stepped onto my palm, smiling up at me angelically.

"Thank you for defending me." Kaylia said.

"I would do anything for you Kaylia, I'll never let anyone hurt you." I replied softly.

Kaylia walked up to my thumb, taking the digit into her arms, she hugged and kissed my thumb softly. I smiled at Kaylia warmly, carefully wrapping my thumb around her as a way to hug her back.

I stayed with Kaylia the rest of the day, but before we both knew it, night had fallen. I was relieved that I had been able to save her from Mr. O'Connor the first time, though I began to wonder if I'd be able to keep doing so, not that I wouldn't try, but would Mr. O'Connor give up in trying to take my angel away from me?

The next morning, I awoke to a bright sunny day, however, my awakening quickly turned rude as I went into the room where I kept Kaylia's dollhouse. As I entered to go to the dollhouse, I found it completely demolished, Kaylia was nowhere in sight.

I looked all over the house, but couldn't find her anywhere, there was only one place I knew to look for her, which was back at the pet store where I found her, I raced out the door and ran back to the pet store, knowing in my heart that that's where she had to be.

I went inside the pet store, Mr. O'Connor was at the counter. He reached for the phone to call the police on me, but I stopped him, grabbing him by the throat.

"Where's Kaylia? I know you took her!" I yelled.

"All you have to do is look up." Mr. O'Connor replied after I let go of him.

I looked up, and there was poor Kaylia, inside that horrible cage again, only this time, her tiny arms were shackled so she couldn't move. At this point, I completely lost it, I grabbed Mr. O'Connor again by the shirt.

"Let her go!" I yelled.

"No." Mr. O'Connor replied in a cold voice.

"If you don't let her go, I swear I'll......" I answered.

"You'll what?" Mr. O'Connor asked, thinking I wouldn't do anything.

That's when it happened, my anger took over, and I let Mr. O'Connor have it. I connected my fist to his jaw, knocking him out colder than a penguin at the north pole. I grabbed a ladder that I was lucky enough to find in the corner of the store, I climbed it and opened the cage, reaching in to carefully release Kaylia from her prison.

I carefully removed Kaylia from the cage and left the store, taking her home. When we got to the house, I placed her on the kitchen table and sat down in one of the chairs before her, boy was she mad at me.

"Kaylia." I whispered, "Please don't be mad at me."

"You didn't stop him from kidnapping me!" she squeaked.

"I didn't hear him come in, I must have been sleeping too soundly." I replied.

"I thought you loved me Steve?!" she yelled.

"I do." I whispered, "That's why I came back for you, I do love you."

"You have a funny way of showing it." Kaylia snapped.

I knew I had messed up big time, but wanted to find some way to make it up to her, though finding a way to do so was going to be easier said than done. I knew she was mad at me now, but what could I do to help her understand that I loved her?

Later that evening, I had gone out for a few moments to pick something up for Kaylia, I went to the toy store to buy her a new dollhouse, since the last one she had lived in had been destroyed.

I returned home to find Kaylia still on the table where I'd left her, I left her some food and a thimble of beverage to drink in case she got hungry while I was gone. I offered Kaylia a hand, and as she stepped onto my palm, I lifted her to my eye level.

"I hope you're not still mad at me." I whispered.

Kaylia said nothing, just shrugging a little, I think she was feeling guilty, but I wasn't really sure. I carried her into the bedroom, placing her on my nightstand, then brought in the dollhouse for her to see.

When I lowered her down to the dollhouse, she cowared away from it, clinging to my thumb.

"What's wrong?" I asked softly.

Kaylia looked up at me, "I don't want to go in there." she replied.

Then it hit me, "Oh, right, I guess it reminds you of that cage, doesn't it?" I asked.

Kaylia nodded her head, "Yes.... besides..... I want to be with you.... I got very lonely being in a dollhouse all by myself."

Poor Kaylia, if I had known that in the beginning, I wouldn't have gotten her one to begin with. I sat down on my bed, holding Kaylia in my hand carefully, she looked up at me, then walked up, hugging my thumb again.

"I feel safer with you." she squeaked.

Kaylia's statement warmed my heart, "Well, we have to find someplace for you to sleep, I can't let you sleep on my chest, because I toss and turn a lot in my sleep, I wouldn't want you falling off and having me roll on you."

Kaylia nodded, then it hit me. I took the tiny bed that came with the dollhouse, which even came with a tiny pillow and sheets, I placed it on my nightstand and handed Kaylia the sheets and pillow after placing her on the nightstand.

"This is the best I can do." I told her softly.

"If it means I get to be with you, I'll do it." she squeaked with a smile.

I turned off the TV after Kaylia fell asleep, seeing on the news that Mr. O'Connor had been arrested for illegally owning the pet store, most of the animals he had there, it turned out he had smuggled, he was now locked up for a very long time.

As for Kaylia and I, we're still friends, and she still lives with me. I couldn't imagine my life without her in it now, she's become a part of me, what adventures lie ahead for us? only time will tell, but for now, all I want to do is take care of her, just so she knows she's loved.
